The 10 unbreakable rules of blog writing

When you’re writing blog articles, you should strive for consistency in delivering quality and value. And the best way to ensure consistency is to abide by a set of rules every time you put the proverbial pen to paper. When I write, I follow my ten unbreakable rules of blog writing:1. Write for a specific personAll of your blog articles should be crafted as if you’re writing for one specific person: your target audience. 2. Answer specific questionsWhen you write an article, it should focus on answering one specific question that your audience has. 3. Be unconventionalIf you write the same thing as everyone else, how are you going to stand out? Try to offer a hot take on a current issue, an original idea, or a new stance on a popular topic. 4. Create utility contentYour blog articles need to be useful. They should educate, inspire, entertain, and inform your audience.5. Only publish content you’d want to readWould you read your article if you saw it online? If not, scrap it and start over.6. Make it skimmablePeople don’t read content, they skim it. So, you need to make your content skimmable. 7. Keep it conciseShort and impactful beats long and convoluted, every time. 8. Be conversationalThe most engaging content feels like a conversation. Write it the way you’d speak it.9. Always include a call-to-action Every article should include a reasonable call-to-action--don’t ask for more value than you’re offering.10. Always promote your articlesPublish your article on social media, share it in your newsletter, and more. Consistent quality and value. That’s the name of the game. Do this and you’ll have a leg up on the majority of your competitors.
