Nelson Mandela said something I love: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”That’s something I try to channel into everything I do, because the most daunting things tend to end up being the most worthwhile. Endurance athletics. Building a business. Going on adventures. Big picture stuff. The most rewarding things I’ve ever achieved always seemed impossible at first. But I got to work. Then suddenly they weren’t. And the next thing I knew, I had set my sights higher and was onto even bigger things. The same applies on a more granular scale as well.I used to think writing emails to send to you all was daunting. I used to think doing social media for myself was daunting. It all seemed like too much to tackle and, for a long time, that kept me from even starting. But I did start. And now, it’s just another part of my workday. And now that those things are just par for the course, I'm gearing up to do new things, like host webinars and collaborate with some very cool people. Those things still seem daunting, but they won’t for long. And for a lot of the coworking spaces I connect with, they feel the same way about creating content: it seems daunting and overwhelming. So much so that they don’t even start. And as a result, they miss out on a lot of opportunities to bring in new members and engage their existing ones in a meaningful way. My point is this: the key to stopping something from being daunting is to just start doing it--and that goes for your content marketing as well. Start small. Start with whatever you can. And as that becomes habitual and becomes your status quote, your high watermark will keep rising and you’ll be able to keep adding more until you’re seeing real results from the work you’ve put in. Creating content always seems daunting at first. But just get moving, because small steps still cover miles eventually.
